According to Rich Johnston, Boom! (publishers of the Incredibles, the Muppets, and other kids' books) now has the license to Gemstone's Disney titles.

The article lists "The Life And Times of Scrooge McDuck" and "Mickey Mouse and Friends", in addition to "Donald Duck: and "Walt Disney's Comics & Stories". So, perhaps there will be 4 Disney comic book titles published by Boom!

I'm missing "Uncle Scrooge" in the title list, but the article says "I understand that Boom Studios has won the comic book license for "Walt Disney Comics And Stories," "Mickey Mouse And Friends," "Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck," "Donald Duck" and more." So there is space for more titles incl. Uncle Scrooge and the long awaited Carl Barks Collection
Has anyone seen a published book from Boom? How is the quality?

That sounds cool.

Note that this is a rumour column! There has been no official announcement from Boom.

They have not denied it, either.

I hope the rumor is true. It would be nice if there was a new company that published Disney Comics. I just hope they won't be too expensive.

I'm not too happy to read this news, because Boom! Disney comics (Cars, Incredibles, Muppets) are not available outside USA with Previews; so for me it could be difficult to start again my Disney comic books collection.

That's a good point. I can't find any Boom comic at Amazon. Don't they sell with an ISBN in book stores?
Boom! Studios itself ships to Europe

Boom! has announced that their Cars, Incredibles, Muppet, Toy Story and Finding Nemo miniseries will all be collected in trade paperbacks. Presumably, those collections will be available through Amazon etc.

As far as I know, BOOM!'s editor in chief Mark Waid has a policy of not responding to any rumours from Lying in the Gutters.
I'd say there's still a good chance this isn't true. But, of course, it might be true. Only BOOM! and Disney would know, and they're not saying anything at the moment.

I really hope that Boom publishes the Disney Comics that I like so much. I would hate to think that Disney Comics are gone for good.

I was just informed of this rumor tonight. Sure hope it is true, and further that if so, Boom! pursues a more aggressive trade program with consumer friendly pricing! I think neither of these things is possible in the US though, unless Marvel or DC were to acquire the rights.

I think, they got the licence, but it may be a hard risk to publish all the old series, perhaps they'll print one issue of WDC&S per month, not more...

Maybe so Dago. I don't think they will mess up the same way Gemstone did.

I think that IF theses rumours are true, Boom! will print both Walt Disney's Comics and Stories and Uncle Scrooge monthly. And, they will have more sales outlets than Gladstone or Gemstone did. They will also get some book store, drugstore/discount store magazine rack space, as did the "Disney Adventures" in-house publications. That may help assure them higher sales than Gemstone.

I hope you're right about that Robb. It would be cool to be able to buy them in stores instead of having to subscribe to them.

I've been reading Boom's superb Muppet Show series, and I'm greatly excited by the possibility of them taking over Uncle Scrooge and co.
While it is a good idea to remember it's all rumor until the press releases make their rounds, I can indeed confirm for you all that the classic license has been examined and/or bid on recently by more than one comic publisher. Good news in and of itself!
If another publisher with more resources picks the titles up, I'd like to see some efforts to bring the classic characters into more contemporary production values. I know colorists that could make an Uncle Scrooge comic look better than Fantasia.

Their Muppets comics are the same standard length and (not-so-great) paper quality common to publishers like Marvel and DC. 32 pages for $2.99US.
Kinda wish it was closer to IDW's format, as their production quality is through the roof on both single issues and TPBs with a marginal price difference.

BOOM! was a surprise... especially considering Egmont recently set up shop here in the U.S.
Curious if it'll be reprints of Egmont material, new stuff written by Waid and co. or a combination of the two.
Hopefully they'll take the comics outside the comic shops... where kids are...

That's good news. So where will be a least one to pick it up.
I still hope that Egmont will get the classic license and start publishing Disney comics in English as well. They are providing great quality in Europe since decades. And they have enough resources to subsidize a smaller US market with the European sales in the start. And the most important point for all readers in Europe: they will have no problem selling the English comic books in Europe.

It looks like it is official!!! At this website: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2009/06/19/ … ey-titles/
you can see that WDC&S and Mickey Mouse and Friends will be starting up in a few months.
At this site: http://www.comixtreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48005
you can read what will be in these two issues.
So let the celebration begin and hopefully we will see an Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck, and even more titles in the months to come!

That is good news. But, I hope the related news continues to get better.
I assume that at least our unfinished Gemstone WDC subscriptions will be honoured by Boom, and that money will be put towards the new boom issues. The prices of $2.99 and size of 24-pages tell me that they will go back to the traditional comic book format (but more like Gladstone's "Penny Pincher", with such a small page count. I hope they will also have an "Uncle Scrooge" and a "Donald Duck" issue, as WDC being 24 pages only has room for one 12-page European Donald Story, and two 6-page or three 4-page secondary character stories. I hope "Mickey Mouse and Friends" will be a "catch-all" title for stories of characters from The Mickey Mouse Universe, from Gottfredson, Murry and the other classic Western Publishing historical US printings, as well as new Italian and Danish pocketbook stories, classic Italian stories, and new Egmont and French Mickey Universe stories (Noel Van Horn, etc.). I hope it will not be limited to what is in its first issue (current modernistic pocketbook fare).
I hope that we will have new "Uncle Scrooge" and "Donald Duck" books to fill out our previous Gemstone subscriptions to those books. If NOT, I assume that our balances will be put towards our choices of WDC or "Mickey and Friends".
If we are limited only to those two 24-page magazines, we will have much less material released than either Gladstone or Gemstone had through the bulk of their franchise runs.
